This is the book that in my 42 years on this planet most changed my outlook on life, therefore my experience of life and therefore, my life.
Having read this about 4 times over the last few months – I made it part of my daily spiritual practice – it continues to inspire and empower me into the creative force that I am and has given me a much deeper understanding of how to move my life in the direction I want:
“You get your life to take off by first becoming very clear in your thinking about it. Think about what you want to be, do, have. Think about it often until you are very clear about this. Then, when you are very clear, think about nothing else. Imagine no other possibilities.”
Having put this into practice extensively over the last month I have been astounded by the results!
Conversations has also finally given me a context (framework) for God, spirituality and religion that works for me; having grown up in a religion that was based on a punishing God this aspect of my life has always been warped, to say the least!
“It is not God’s function to create, or un-create, the circumstances or conditions of your life. God created you, in the image and likeness of God. You have created the rest, through the power God has given you. God created the process of life and life itself as you know it. Yet God gave you free choice, to do with life as you will.”
Since reading Conversations I’ve changed my belief that I was here, on the planet, to learn something and have begun to experience that I really am only here to create … misery, or displeasure, or love, or abundance – the choice is always mine!
“Your job on Earth, therefore, is not to learn (because you already know), but to re-member Who You Are. And to re-member who everyone else is. That is why a big part of your job is to remind others (that is, to re-mind them) so that they can re-member also
All the wonderful spiritual teachers have been doing just that. It is your sole purpose. That is to say, your soul purpose.”
The book also addresses very clearly the apparent paradox of acceptance versus apathy, and resisting what is versus re-creating something new.
“Celebrate and enjoy ALL that you create, have created. Whatever it is that is now
presenting itself as part of your creation, own it, claim it, bless it and be thankful for it.
If there is some aspect of creation that you find you do not enjoy, bless it and simply change it. Choose again. Call forth a new reality. Think a new thought. Say a new word. Do a new thing.”
Again, on a very practical level, having immersed myself in this book consistenly over the last few months and applying the principles I was shocked to discover how much time I spent thinking negative thoughts which created negative expectations and inevitably, negative outcomes. No wonder life was sometimes a struggle!
I love the shocking nature of some of the things Donald quotes God on, like “You would rather see a man dying without a whimper on the battlefield than a woman making love with a whimper in the street” because they challenge old habitual ways of thinking and allows for a deeper awakening to life and the mystery and magic of it!
The book answers a range of questions on diverse topics such as money, sex, health and life purpose and I especially loved the chapter on what relationships are really intended for.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who is willing to let go of what you think you know and open up to the possibility that everything is not as it seems… and how you have been taught!
