How internet porn affects women

If you’re like most women, you may (quite understandably) be repulsed even by the idea of internet porn.  You could even be forgiven for thinking that it’s a men’s thing and has nothing to do with you.

If you did think that, you’d be absolutely right and totally wrong.

It is true that the majority (that’s VAST majority) of porn-users are men.  It’s also true that it totally and 100% affects YOU as a wife, partner or lover of a porn addict, and here’s why.

Internet porn affects men physically (if you’re not convinced yet check out this section on the site that tells you how porn actually changes the brain).

Porn also affects men emotionally and as you know, our emotions are the way that we connect with others.  Our emotions are what governs how good we feel about ourselves and how safe we feel with others.

Our emotions are, more than anything else, what determine how confident we are sexually, and how intimate we allow ourselves to be with our partners.

So you see – if a man in your life is addicted to internet porn, it very much affects you not just indirectly but directly:

  • his guilt and shame about his porn addiction – do you really think it does not affect the way he is with you?
  • ditto for his fear of being caught out, sneaking around behind your back or being worried about what you may find in his inbox or on his cellphone?
  • it affects your sex-life with him because porn alters the chemistry in his brain and it’s a physiological fact that he’s likely to start finding you sexually less attractive and sex with you boring sooner rather than later.

Ultimately, porn absolutely affects the closeness of your relationship with him; if you needed a reason to have a heart-to-heart, non-accusatory, talk with your man – or just point him to The Laughing Monkey for help – surely that would be it?
